Kiln Shell

Rotary Kiln Shell Deformations

Local deformation of kiln shell has a negative effect on brick lining inside the kiln, shortening its lifetime. It is recommended to control lining condition at every kiln renovation stoppage. When the loss of lining is observed still in the same place the shell segment replacement should be taken into account.

High value of radial run-out of kiln shell have a negative impact on most of the components e.g. too large or uneven pressure on the shafts of rollers, running surfaces of tires and rollers, radial run-out of inlet or outlet sealing, root clearance values change at girth gear station, increased axial tire thrust (excessive mechanical wear of tire side surface and stop-blocks), uneven load distribution between tires and rollers as a result of “wobbling” etc. Therefore, it is extremely important to keep this parameter within tolerance through continuous monitoring of temperature on shell circumference (especially shell segments located close to tires) and correct procedure during heating (e.g. after kiln stoppage), and cooling the kiln.
